SAMPLE ITINERARY

This is a 3-day sample itinerary. Remember that IndoExcursions can create a journey of any length to meet your exact specifications.

* DAY 1

Riverboat.jpg

Early on Day 1, we'll drop you at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, where you'll catch a morning flight (1.5 hours) to Pangkalan Bun in south Borneo. At Pangkalan Bun Airport, you'll be picked up by our tour operator and delivered to the port (about 15 minutes away). There, you'll board a traditional wooden houseboat

(klotok), and, by noon, you'll be sailing up the Sekonyer River whilst enjoying a hearty lunch prepared by the onboard cook.

After lunch, the boat will stop at the Tanjung Harapan Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and you'll deboard to witness the afternoon orangutan feeding time at the Centre. Then, back on the boat, you'll continue your slow cruise up the Sekonyer River in search of wild orangutans, long-nosed proboscis monkeys and long-tailed macaque monkeys.

In the evening, dinner will be served aboard the boat, and you'll settle down for a good night's sleep on a comfortable mattress complete with a mosquito net.

* DAY 2

After breakfast, you'll resume your cruise up the Sekoyer River and arrive at the Pondok Tanguy Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in time for the morning orangutan feeding time at the Centre. Then you'll continue your cruise whilst keeping a close watch for crocodiles and other exotic wildlife.

After lunch is served, you'll deboard at Camp Leakey Orangutan Research and Rehabilitation Centre, the premiere Orangutan rehabilitation centre on the Sekonyer River. You'll be a Camp Leaky for the afternoon orangutan feeding time, and, afterward, you'll set off on a short trek through the rainforest to take in the tropical birds and vegetation of the area.

In the evening, you'll dine and overnight on the boat one last time.

* DAY 3

You'll rise early of Day 3 and have breakfast on the boat whilst cruising back down the Sekonyer River to Pangkalan Bun to return to the airport. You'll depart Pangkalan Bun on a morning flight to Jakarta and should be settled back at your Jakarta hotel by lunchtime or shortly thereafter.

HOW  DOES THE PROCESS WORK?

IndoExcursions' Borneo Riverboat Cruises are not physically strenuous

and are suitable for travellers of all ages.

However, it should be understood that the traditional wooden houseboats (klotok) which ply the Sekoyer River are NOT luxurious.

Onboard bathrooms are equipped with western-style toilets and showers but they're small and basic. Meals are hearty and delicious but they're simple. And sleeping arrangements involve mattresses with mosquito nets laid out on deck.

In short, Sekonyer houseboats are "rustic,"

in keeping with the culture and jungle environment of the River.

There is one local hotel on the Sekonyer River.

If you'd prefer to sleep nights at the hotel (rather than aboard your boat),

this can be arranged for an additional charge.
