  • Indonesian Entry Requirements
THERE'S NOT REALLY MUCH TO THINK ABOUT. For citizens of most countries IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO MAKE ANY ADVANCE ARRANGEMENTS WHATSOEVER for visits of 30 days or less. (See list of 169 "Visa-Free" countries below). At Customs, simply present : A PASSPORT Your Passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from your scheduled date of departure. Your Passport must contain at least one completely blank page. A RETURN (OR ONWARD) AIRLINE TICKET The departure date of your Ticket must be within 30 days of your arrival in Indonesia. THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF THE HOTEL/GUESTHOUSE WHERE YOU WILL STAY Prior to your departure, IndoExcursions will provide you the name of address of an appropriate hotel (based on the journey you've selected). And that's all there is to it! Once you've been approved for entry into Indonesia, you'll be issued a Free 30-day, Non-Extendable VISA-ON-ARRIVAL (VOA). __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ IF YOU PLAN ON STAYING IN INDONESIA LONGER THAN 30 DAYS . . . Please visit an Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in your home-country (before visiting Indonesia) A 60-DAY TOURIST VISA is available to travellers who wish to stay in Indonesia longer than 30 days . . . but this Visa must be arranged at an Indonesian Embassy or Consulate outside of Indonesia (prior to arrival in the country). The cost of a 60-Day Tourist Visa varies from country to country, but it is usually about USD $70 to $75. (Please check with an Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in your home-country for the exact figure.) At an Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in your home country, you must present : A PASSPORT Your Passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from your scheduled date of departure. Your Passport must contain at least one completely blank page. A RETURN (OR ONWARD) AIRLINE TICKET The departure date of your Ticket must be within 30 days of your arrival in Indonesia. THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF THE HOTEL/GUESTHOUSE WHERE YOU WILL STAY. IndoExcursions will provide you the name of address of an appropriate hotel (based on the journey you've selected). __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The above information is provided as a service for prospective IndoExcursions travellers. The information, however, is based solely on our understandings and interpretations of Indonesia’s entry requirements. We cannot guarantee the accuracy of the statements made. We encourage you to contact an Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in their home-country for current and accurate information regarding Indonesia’s entry requirements for citizens of your country.
  • Vaccinations & Travel Insurance
VACCINATIONS There are no vaccinations required to visit Indonesia, unless you will visit a 'jungle region' (not included on your IndoExcursions trip). With that said, we encourage you to consult your doctor for up-to-date medical travel information, including vaccinations which are recommended for citizens of your country. TRAVEL INSURANCE Medical Insurance Coverage, including medical evacuation in the case of an emergency, is compulsory for all travellers on IndoExcursions trips. We strongly recommend that your Travel Insurance Policy also covers personal liability, trip cancellation, curtailment, and loss of luggage and personal effects. At the Orientation Meeting at the commencement of your IndoExcursions trip, your Escort/Tour Leader will ask for evidence of Medical Insurance Coverage, as well as the insurance company's 24-hour emergency telephone number. If your insurance coverage is through your credit card, your Escort/Tour Leader will need (i) details of the participating insurer/underwriter, (ii) the level of coverage, (iii) the policy number, and (iv) the the 24-hour emergency telephone number of the insurer. Please contact your bank for these details prior to arriving in Indonesia for your trip (Providing your 'bank's name' and your 'credit card details' will not be sufficient.)
  • Dietary Restrictions & Pre-Existing Medical Conditions
DIETARY RESTRICTIONS On IndoExcursions trips, we eat at carefully-selected restaurants (the ones we love) which offer a wide selection of dining cloices. And our travellers order directly off the menu, thus eliminating any concerns about dietary restrictions and/or preferences! Of course, if you are a vegan, coeliac or have very specific meal requirements, you may still wish to supplement your meals with supplies bought from home. If you have allergies to nuts, you should know that peanuts are used widely in Indonesian cooking. Therefore, your dining choices may, at times, be quite imited, and you should ensure that you carry proper medication with you in the event of a reaction to peanut traces in food. PRE-EXISTING HEALTH CONDITIONS You should bring with you any personal medications you require, and a spare pair of glasses is advisable (if this is appropiate). Medicines may not be easily obtainable at some locations on your trip. And, for legal reasons, our Tour Leaders and Guides are prohibited from administering drugs, including headache tablets and antibiotics. Please ensure that you are adequately prepared.
  • Money Matters
MONEY MATTERS Here are the Fast Facts : The official currency of Indonesia is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). Cash is still the the preferred method of payment in Indonesia. There are Money Changers everywhere throughout the country. There are ATMs everywhere throughout the country. We recommend that you carry 2 ATM cards (as a precaution). In the event that lose or damage an ATM card, you'll have a spare, ensuring that you have no difficulty accessing cash throughout your journey. We suggest that you carry at least 1 Credit Card as a backup. (Bring 2 if possible). DO NOT BRING TRAVELLER'S CHEQUES TO INDONESIA. Traveller's Cheques are virtually useless in the country, rarely accepted at even the largest establishments. (In fact, we've NEVER found a place that honours them!) Again, IndoExcursions' journeys are all-inclusive. We take great pains to ensure that you're rarely in need of personal funds. With that said, you'll want to budget a sensible amount for things not included in your Trip Fee : chiefly, alcoholic beverages, activities and meals on "free days," shopping, and laundry. And you should allocate a little extra for unforeseen expenses (such as excess baggage charges) or unplanned personal expenditures. But other than that, we've got you covered!
  • What to Bring
WHAT TO BRING Pack light! Keep it simple! Leave at home all items that fall into the 'I may need this' category. We're fairly certain you won’t. Please keep in mind : Checked baggage restrictions on smaller domestic flights within Indonesia are typically 10 kgs (22 lbs), with a limit of 7 kgs (15 lbs) for carry-on baggage. Laundry service in Indonesia is not only cheap, but quick and efficient as well. You'll be happier washing items frequently (rather than lugging a large suitcase). And everyone on tour will be on the same cyclical rotation of 4 blouses/shirts! It's not advisable (for North Americans) to bring electronic appliances. Even with a power converter, 110-volt appliances tend to overheat and burn out. You're better to purchase a hair trimmer or blow dryer on arrival if you require one. Most everything is available for purchase in Indonesia. If you need something, your Escort/Tour Leader can point you in the right direction. Your Escort/Tour Leader will carry a store of supplies. Your Tour Leader will attempt to anticipate your every need, carrying with him miscellaneous items to cover most eventualities - collapsible umbrellas, raincoats, torches/flashlights, electrical adapters, insect repellent, bandages, ziplock bags, electrolyte powder - you name it. So, again, pack light and keep it simple! There's nothing we can't take care of here in Indonesia. _______________________________________________________________ OUR RECOMMENDED PACKING LIST * First and foremost, your Airline Ticket to Indonesia! * Passport + Coloured Copy of Passport * 2 ATM Cards (We recommend having a spare ATM Card in the event that 1 is lost or damaged) * 1 Credit Card (2 if possible) * Information/Documents you will need : NAME AND ADDRESS OF THE FIRST HOTEL YOU WILL STAY AT IN INDONESIA. This information will be sent to you prior to your arrival in Indonesia. You'll need to present this information at Immigration upon entry to Indonesia. TRAVEL INSURANCE DOCUMENTS AND YOUR EMERGENCY CONTACT DETAILS. You'll need to present this information to your Escort/Tour Leader at your Orientation Meeting upon your arrival in Indonesia. ADDRESSES OF FRIENDS AND FAMILY WHO MIGHT LIKE TO RECEIVE A POSTCARD. * Pen and Notepad * Book / Reading Material * Camera * Backpack / Small Day Pack (for day trips) * A (very) few changes of Top (T-Shirt /Shirt / Blouse) * A (very) few changes of Short Trousers * At least 1 'Nice Outfit' for going out in the evening - Collared Shirt and Long Pants / Possibly a Dress or Skirt and Blouse for women) * Pajamas / Sleepwear * Bathing Suit / Swimwear * Light Jacket (for high altitudes and airline cabins) * Hat / Cap (for shelter from the sun) * Sunglasses * 1 Pair of Flip-Flops or 'Slip-On' Shoes In Indonesia, footwear is removed before entering homes and temples, so it's essential you have shoes which can be easily slipped on and off. * 1 Pair of Closed-Toe Shoes for walking or trekking * 1 Pair of Comfortable Shoes for going out in the Evening. * Socks and Undergarments * Toiletries * Prescription Drugs / Medications * Preferred Over-the-Counter Drugs for headaches and upset stomachs * Waterproof Sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) * Aloe Vera Gel * Lip Balm (preferably one with SPF protection) * Spare Pair of Glasses (if you wear corrective eyewear) _______________________________________________________________ NOTES : Tops and Trousers should be 100% cotton. Synthetics are extremely uncomfortable in the heat. Jeans are NOT recommended. They are uncomfortably heavy in the heat. Please do not bring Expensive Jewellery. It is inappropriate in poorer rural districts. T-Shirts and Short Trousers are available everywhere in Indonesia, and travellers tend to purchase and wear these when on tour. (Please keep this in mind when packing.) Toiletries, Sunscreen, Aloe Vera Gel and Lip Balm are all readily available in Indonesia. If you'd like to pack less, leave these at home and purchase them once you arrive. WHAT IS NOT READILY AVAILABLE IN INDONESIA IS . . . Familiar Over-the-Counter Drugs and Large Shoe Sizes. Please bring any medications you'll need for headaches and upset stomachs, and ensure that you have adequate footwear to cover you for the duration of your journey. Most importantly, bring an open heart and mind, and a sense of adventure!
  • Safety
SAFETY Indonesia is, statistically one of the safest country in the world. In a recent study ranking crime levels in 159 countries from highest to lowest, Indonesia ranked 149th. Travellers from western countries generally feel very safe and comfortable with the gentle people of Indonesia.

At that point, you may make changes to your booking or decline your booking. (c) Once everything is settled and we receive your final approval of the Trip Confirmation, then we will issue a Confirmation Invoice via email. The Confirmation Invoice will detail the amounts and due dates of your Reservation Deposit and Final Trip Payment. A contract shall exist between us from the date we issue the Confirmation Invoice. 4. (b) At least 30 days before your trip departure : you are required pay the Remaining Balance (50%) of the Total Trip Fee in order to keep your trip booking confirmed. All Trip Fees are non-refundable. Should your trip booking be submitted after the 60-day window but before the 30-day window : your Reservation Deposit will be due immediately upon our acceptance of your trip booking/registration and your final approval. Should your trip booking be submitted after the 30-day window : the Total Trip Fee will be due immediately upon our acceptance of your trip booking/registration and your final approval. 5. CURRENCY AND EXCHANGES RATES INDOEXCURSIONS' Trip Fees are in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). When completing the INDOEXCURSIONS' Registration Form (on our website), you will be asked to specify the currency in which you wish to be invoiced. On your Invoice Confirmation, you will be invoiced in your desired currency, based on the exchange rate (between the IDR and your currency-of-choice) being offered by INDOEXCURSIONS' bank in Jakarta, Indonesia on the day the Invoice Confirmation is issued. 6. YOUR DETAILS (a) In order for us to complete your travel arrangements (domestic air flights, boat charters, hotel reservations, etc), you must provide all requested details on the INDOEXCURSIONS Registration Form (on our website), including (i) complete and accurate passport information, and (ii) particulars regarding any dietary restrictions, disabilities and/or pre-existing medical conditions you may have; (b) Prior to the commencement of your trip, you must provide us with any additional information we may request in order that we can successfully make arrangements on your behalf; (c) At the Orientation Meeting at the commencement of your trip, you must provide us with (i) emergency contact information in the event you have of a problem whilst on the trip, and (ii) evidence that you have travel insurance providing cover against personal accident, death, medical expenses and emergency repatriation; (d) Failure to provide all requested details as outlined above may result in additional charges or cancellation of your trip; and, depending on when the failure occurs, it could result in the loss of all monies paid for the trip. Our apologies if we seem "heavy-handed" on this point. Our only desire is to provide you with seamless logistics and faultless arrangements - something we can only do when you provide us with the details we need to orchestrate an exceptional journey for you. 7. CANCELLATION BY THE TRAVELLER Within our industry, travellers typically pay for their entire trips 2 months in advance. Travellers are usually eligible for a 50% refund on trips which are cancelled more than 30 days in advance, and are not eligible any refund on trips which are cancelled less than 30 days in advance. At INDOEXCURSIONS, we operate on a different model. You pay only 50% of your Trip Fee 2 months in advance (which provides us the funds to book domestic airline flights and make deposits for boat charters, hotels rooms and service providers on your behalf). The remaining balance (50%) of your Trip Fee is not due until 30 days prior to your trip departure. Under our model, your initial payment and final payment are both non-refundable, but you pay no monies until it is absolutely necessary. We feel that this is a more "positive" approach, as it eliminates any negativity which might result from you having paid your full Trip Fee 2 months in advance and then needing to pursue a refund later. We hope you agree. 8. CANCELLATION BY US If, for any reason, we must cancel a trip which you have booked, we will immediately inform you of the cancellation and promptly refund, without delay, any fees which have been paid by you for the given trip. Should you decide to book an alternate INDOEXCURSIONS trip, you may request that monies paid for the cancelled trip be applied to the alternate trip (rather than refunded to you) and we will happily oblige. (Please note that, to-date, INDOEXCURSIONS has never cancelled the trip of a fully paid traveller.) 9. BOOKING AMENDMENTS We recognise that life is filled with unexpected turns and we try to remain flexible at all times. If you would like to (i) transfer from one trip to another, (ii) transfer your entire booking to a third party, or (iii) make any other changes to your booking, we will make every effort to accommodate your request(s) as painlessly and as economically as possible. For changes made at least 60 days prior to your trip departure date, there will be no additional charges whatsoever. Sadly, however, if you make changes less than 60 days prior to your trip, we may need to charge you for non-recoverable expenses and/or penalties levied by hotels, ground operators and airlines in connection with your trip. However, we will only charge you for 'real expenses.' IndoExcursions will NOT apply any additional surcharges for changes. Except under extenuating circumstances, no amendments are permitted to your booking within 10 days of departure. 10. INCLUSIONS INDOEXCURSIONS' TRIPS ARE ALL-INCLUSIVE. We take great pains to ensure that you are rarely in need of personal funds. Included in your Trip Fee are : * Mobile Telephone (with calling time) for use during your trip * Transportation Domestic airline flights ; overland travel in spacious, air-conditioned vehicles; and (on trips which include Komodo-Flores) 4 days of travel aboard a luxury liveaboard boat. * Meals and Snacks Except on a few "free days," all meals are included. Drinking water, juice, soft drinks and snacks are always available during overland travel. * Accommodation You will stay at luxury hotels at each each locale visited. Should your tour include stops where "luxury accommodations" are unavailable, you will stay at the highest class of hotel available. If your Tour involves visits to more than one island, you will be provided an additional night's stay (after termination of your trip) at a hotel in the city where your trip originated. * Escort/Tour Leader for the duration of your trip Upon arrival in Indonesia, you and your fellow-travellers will be met by an INDOEXCURSIONS Escort/Tour Leader who will accompany you for the duration of your trip. INDOEXCURSIONS Escorts/Tour Leaders are highly-credentialed individuals who have held positions of responsibility for many years prior to joining our organisation. * Professional Tour Guides at each locale visited At each locale visited, you will be served by university-accredited tour guides who are native to the area. All INDOEXCURSIONS Tour Guides are knowledgeable in the history and cultural heritage of their region, and are fully trilingual, speaking English, an Indonesian local language, and the national language, Bahasa Indonesia. * Written Materials Your Escort/Tour Leader will, from time to time, provide you with written materials relevant to your current location and its cultural/historic sites. * Miscellaneous Items Your Escort/Tour Leader will attempt to anticipate the needs of you and your fellow-travellers. She/he will carry a store of supplies to cover most eventualities - collapsible umbrellas, raincoats, torches/flashlights, electrical adapters, insect repellent, bandages, ziplock bags, electrolyte powder, etc. * Admission Fees to all Sites and Performances * Tips and Gratuities as appropriate throughout the trip * Donations to all villages visited * Contributions to the INDOEXCURSIONS EDUCATION FUND A portion of your Trip Fee will be allocated to the INDOEXCURSIONS EDUCATION FUND. Your purchase of an INDOEXCURSIONS trip will keep one selected outstanding student in school or university for one month. 11. EXCLUSIONS * Flights to and from the destination where your INDOEXCURSIONS trip begins and ends * Visa and Passport Fees * Travel Insurance * Excess Baggage Charges * Meals and Activities not specified on the Trip Itinerary * Alcoholic Beverages * Personal Expenses. 12. AGE & HEALTH REQUIREMENTS (a) We welcome travellers of all ages and we have no upper age limit. With that said, we are not medical professionals and are unable to gauge your overall fitness. Please ensure that you have obtained proper and detailed medical advice at least two months prior to travel. (b) During your trip, should you decide that any activity is too physically demanding to undertake (e.g. snorkeling or trekking), then you may simply opt NOT to participate. At each locale we visit, you will stay in luxurious accommodations (usually 4- and 5-star hotels and resorts), and there are typically many activities available onsite (e.g. yoga lessons, Indonesian cooking classes, traditional dance classes, massage and spa services, etc). Therefore, you will have plenty of things to do at the hotel/resort should you decide not to participate in a INDOEXCURSIONS activity on a given day. (c) All travellers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian or by an escort over the age of 18 who has been appointed by their legal guardian. The legal guardian or appointed escort will be responsible for the day-to-day care of the traveller under the age of 18. If a legal guardian would like to appoint an escort in her/his place, then we will forward a blank Temporary Guardianship Form / Affidavit. The legal guardian will be required to complete, sign and return the Affidavit to us prior to trip departure. 13. CHANGES TO THE GROUP CONFIGURATION DURING YOUR TRIP. Each and every month, INDOEXCURSIONS sets off on a 27-DAY TRIP ACROSS INDONESIA. Travellers may join us for the entire 27-day trip or they may join us for a portion of the trip. This means that your fellow-travellers may change from time-to-time throughout your trip. (If, for example, you are participating in a full 27-day trip across the country, you may find that 2 of your fellow-travellers terminate their trip in Bali, whilst 2 new travellers join the trip in Bali). Whether your group remains intact for your entire trip or there are small changes to the group configuration throughout the trip, the total number of travellers in your group at any given time will never exceed 8 persons. 14. TRAVEL INSURANCE Each INDOEXCURSIONS traveller is responsible for herself/himself when on tour. Travel insurance is mandatory for all travellers and should be taken out at the time of booking. Your travel insurance must provide cover against personal accident, death, medical expenses and emergency repatriation, with a recommended minimum coverage of US$200,000 for each of the categories of cover. We strongly suggest that your travel insurance also covers trip cancellation, curtailment, personal liability and loss of luggage and personal effects. You must provide evidence of travel insurance at the Orientation Meeting on the first day of your trip. If you are NOT able to provide such evidence, you will not be able to continue on the trip with us (and we will not be able to refund your Trip Fees at that late stage). This would be an extremely disappointing and stressful situation for all of us, so, please, be mindful of this important requirement! 15. CHANGE OF ITINERARY Whilst we endeavor to operate all trips as described, we reserve the right to change the Trip Itinerary to ensure the best experience possible for our travellers. To accommodate a local festival or cultural event, we may, at times, make small alterations to the proposed itinerary that we feel will better your trip. 16. AUTHORITY ON TOUR There is a professional Escort/Tour Leader on every trip offered by IndoExcursions. The decisions of the Escort are final on all matters likely to affect the safety and/or well-being of any traveller or staff member participating in the trip. Should a traveller fail to comply with a decision made by the Escort/Tour Leader or interfere with the safety, well-being and/or mobility of the group, the Escort/Tour Leader may direct the traveller to leave the trip immediately, with no right of refund. Travellers must, at all times, comply with the laws, customs, foreign exchange and drug regulations of Indonesia, and agree to travel in accordance with our responsible travel guidelines. 17. CLAIMS & COMPLAINTS We at INDOEXCURSIONS are very grateful for the trust you are placing in our organisation, and we will work very hard to prove worthy of that trust. We adhere to the highest possible standards of international business ethics and endeavor never to misrepresent our service or mislead our clients in any way. With this in mind, if there is anything that does not meet your expectations during your trip - if you have even the smallest complaint - please inform your Escort/Tour Leader straight away in order that she/he can attempt to rectify the situation immediately. Alternatively, you may contact INDOEXCURSIONS directly at our head office in Jakarta and we will be ready to assist you without delay. Please know that we are always deeply concerned about anything that could damage our goodwill with our clients or be detrimental to our professional image. We want to know your thoughts, so that we can respond to them satisfactorily and establish a long and successful friendship with you in the months and years ahead. 18. This acceptance of liability is subject to Paragraph 22(c) below. (c) We shall not be liable for any damage or loss if the failure to carry out the contract is (i) attributable to you; (ii) attributable to a third party unconnected with the provision of the services contracted for and is unforeseeable or unavoidable; (iii) due to unforeseen and unusual circumstances beyond our control, the consequences of which could not have been avoided even if all due care had been exercised; (iv) due to refusal of entry visas; (v) due to climate or other matters of a similar nature and any other force majeure; or (vi) due to an event which the Company, even with all due care, could not foresee or forestall. In the case of damaged property, the liability is limited to a maximum amount equal to the amount paid by or on behalf of the owner of the property. In all cases, INDOEXCURSIONS specifically excludes all liability for indirect or consequential loss or expense including loss of profits, and in all cases our liability will be limited in accordance with and/or in an identical manner to the contractual terms of the companies that provide the transportation for your travel arrangements. We are to be regarded as having all benefit of any limitation of right to claim or compensation contained in these or any conventions. (f) Our acceptance of liability in clauses 22(c)(1) an 22(c)(2) above is subject to assignment by you of your rights against any agent, supplier or sub-contractor which is in any way responsible for the unsatisfactory arrangements or your death or personal injury. 22. SEVERABILITY In the event that any term or condition contained in these booking conditions is unenforceable or void by operation of law or as being against public policy or for any other reason, then such term or condition shall be deemed to be severed from this contract or amended accordingly only to such extent necessary to allow all remaining terms and conditions to survive and continue as binding. 23.
